Air Force Common Admission Test also known as AFCAT is an exam conducted by India Air Force for the candidates who are willing to protect the Sky of the Nation or play a significant role in the same. By the means of AFCAT examination candidates can seek admission into either one of the following branches of Air Force:
- Flying Branch: The brave guards of our sky who protects us from any potential danger even before it reaches us.
- Ground Branch: They act as Squire for the Knights guarding our sky and are responsible for managing Human & Material resources.
- Technical Branch: These are responsible for managing the Arsenal and provide ground support to the Flying Knights.
Both male as well as female candidates can apply to join Indian Air Force by the means of AFCAT. Both of them are entitled to different type of commissions, the details related to each are as follow:
- Female Candidates: Female candidates will be eligible for Short Service Commission in Flying, Technical & Ground Duty Branch.
- Male candidates: Male candidates will be eligible for Short Service Commission in Flying Branch while in Technical & Ground Duty Branch they are eligible for both Short Service Commission as well as Permanent Commission.
Now let us have a general look at some of the points related to AFCAT starting with the selection process involved.
Selection Process: The selection process of AFCAT is divided in 3 stages:
Stage 1- AFCAT Written Examination: The candidates, who were able to make successful applications, will be invited for a written examination.
- Candidates who applied for Technical Branch will undergo Engineering Knowledge Test (EKT), which is a 45 minute exam conducted immediately after AFCAT examination.
Stage 2- Personal Interviews: The candidates who were successful in clearing the written examinations will be called for personal interviews at one of the below mentioned Air Force Selection Boards, where they will be evaluated by the means of Intelligence test, Psychological test, Group discussions and Interview:
- Dehradun
- Gandhinagar
- Varanasi
- Mysore
- Kancharapara.
Stage 3- Medical Examination: Those candidates who were able to clear the personal interview will be invited for Medical examination at AFCME, New Delhi or IAM Bengaluru. The candidates found physically fit well get the honor to serve the Nation under the Aegis of INDIAN AIR FORCE.
AFCAT Result: Once the AFCAT examination is done, the AFCAT Result is declared approximately within 2 months of the examination and is made available on the official website of Indian Air Force.
