Tata Bolt: The Best Hatchback for India

Tata Bolt: The Best Hatchback for India
Tata Motors India Limited has lost some ground in the hatchback and sedan segments as their offerings here are not able to compete with the products from the Suzuki and the Hyundai brands. With an intention of recapturing the Tata magic they have unveiled two crafty products the compact sedan Zest and the hatchback Bolt during the 2014 Indian auto expo. The sedan has already been launched and the hatchback the Bolt is almost ready for an early 2015 launch. The makers expect to cash on the name Bolt as it signifies the speed and the winning attitude of the Jamaican runner Ussain Bolt.
The Tata Bolt is based on the X1 platform and the basic shape of the Indica Vista has been retained. The front fascia has been made more aggressive when compared to the other Tata models with a new grille and double barrel head lamps with the projector lens stretching from the middle of the bonnet to the grille. The window lines swoop down in curves towards the back hatch and the rear view mirrors have attached turn indicators. The Bolt looks very posh from the rear because of the rounded smooth edges and a cute small rear lamp cluster.
The Tata Bolt Interiors and cabin of the Bolt is funkier than the other Tata vehicles with a burnt orange tone on the dash and the door pads. The standard features of the Bolt may include a manual AC, an engine immobiliser, child lock facilities, power windows at the front, fabric seats, and power and tilt steering and internally operated ORVMs. The reduced boot space is compensated by the fully foldable rear seats. The top variants will have an automatic AC, 2 air bags, ABS, EBD, electrical ORVMs and a touch screen multimedia system developed by Herman for infotainment.  The three spoke steering wheel will have mounted audio controls. Besides it offers voice recognition, SMS readouts and speed dependant volume control. The petrol variants will be powered by a 1200 cc and 85 bhp Revotron mill and the diesel one by a 1300 cc and 75 bhp engine with drive mode selection option for controlling fuel consumption. The mileages of 17 kmpl and 22 kmpl are expected for the petrol and the diesel models respectively.

The physical dimensions of the Bolt are 3825 mm length, 1695 mm width, 1550 mm height, 2470 mm wheel base and 1505 kg weight. The wheels are 15” size. The front brakes are ventilated disc type and the rear ones drum type.
The Bolt may be priced from Rupees 4.6 to 6.6 lakh in India. The competition is expected from the hatchbacks like the Hyundai Grand i10, the Suzuki Swift, the Chevrolet Sail and Volkswagen Polo.
