National Talent Search Examination is an annual examination for the selection for the students to be awarded with the scholarship. NTSE’s first stage is organized by State Council of Educational Research and Training with the help of Liaison officers appointed by NCERT for the purpose of streamlining the process of examination.
As there are 2 Stages of the examination, Stage 1 examination is conducted by respective SCERT of states so there is no particular last date for the submission of the application form as well as the declaration of result of Stage 1 examination. So generally the applications for Stage 1 Examinations are invited in the month of July-August. But the date of examination is kept same for all the states except Meghalaya, Nagaland, Andaman & Nicobar Islands. The date of examination of Meghalaya, Nagaland, Andaman & Nicobar Islands is kept either a day prior or later with respect to other states.
The same goes with the result of NTSE Result of Stage 1 examination. The Result is to be declared by individually by each state so there is not a single date on which the result is declared but the results are declared in the month of February–March. The candidates emerging out successful in Stage 1 examination will then represent their respective states in NTSE Stage 2 Examination.
The Stage 2 examination is organizing & managed by NCERT. Those candidates who were successful in the Stage 1 of the examination will be considered for Stage 2 of the Examination and are not required to make fresh applications.
For the year 2015, the notification for National Talent Search Examination is already out and as per the schedule announce Stage 1 examination will be conducted in on November 08, 2015 for all states other than Meghalaya, Nagaland, Andaman & Nicobar Islands, where the examination will be organized on November 07, 2015. Stage 2 examination will be conducted by NCERT on May 08, 2016.
Now Let us have a look at the scheme of examination of NTSE:
- Mental Ability Test (MAT), Scholastic Ability Test (SAT) & Language Comprehensive Test are the three constituents of the examination.
- MAT and Language Comprehensive Test are of 45 minutes and candidates are supposed to answer 50 questions carrying 1 mark each.
- The duration of SAT is 90 minutes and within the given time period candidates are required to answer 100 questions where each question carries 1 mark.
- Along with Hindi & English the question papers are available in various regional languages such as Assamese, Bangla, Gujarati, Kannada, Marathi, Malayalam, Oriya, Punjabi, Tamil, Telugu and Urdu.
- For each wrong answer, students will be penalized by deducting 1/3 mark which means that three wrong answers will result in deduction of 1 mark from the score obtained.
