IIMs are not the ‘only’ top B-schools in India




When students decide that they should go for MBA in their final year of
graduation, their only dream is to study MBA in IIM. And, why not! Indian
Institute of Management (IIM) is ranked as one of the best business schools in
India and everybody wants to enter best college for a better future. But do you
really believe that IIMs are the only top B-schools in India? Every year, lakhs
of MBA aspirants take the toughest MBA entrance test – Common Admission Test
(CAT) – with dreams of enviable positions after getting their MBA degree from
IIM. The reality is, however, different from their dreams!

Sometimes, students who score more than 98 percentile in the annual CAT exam
don’t get admission in IIMs. The reason is simple – huge gap between seat availability
and demand. There are too many candidates competing against each other to get
few seats available in all IIMs. No need to get disheartened! With lakhs of
students vying for IIMs, it is difficult for everyone to get admission in their

•    Xavier Labour Relations Institute (XLRI),
Jamshedpur
: XLRI is one of the most well-known management institutes in
India. XLRI conducts its own admission test – XAT Entrance exam – for selecting
candidates.

•    Faculty of Management Studies, Delhi (FMS):
FMS is the oldest business school in India which started offering full time MBA course. IIM
CAT scores are the admission criteria in FMS.

•    Indian School of Business, Hyderabad (ISB): ISB
is the leading business school in India offering one year post graduate program
in management. The institution has academic associations with Kellogg School of
Management, The London School of Business and Wharton School. Business
Admission Test (BAT) is a critical criterion in the admission process of ISB.

•  S. P. Jain Institute of Management Studies, Mumbai (SPJIMR):
Since its establishment, S.P Jain Institute has been recognised as the leading
management institute in India because leading companies including Axis Bank,
Colgate, L’Oreal, Microsoft, P&G are some of the recruiters of SPJIMR. The
institute accepts CAT, XAT and GMAT scores.

•    Management Development Institute, Gurgaon (MDI):
MDI is the first internationally accredited Indian business school. MDI has
been ranked among the top B-schools in India in various surveys. MDI also
accepts CAT scores.

Young minds should never feel disheartened if they are unable to qualify for
the IIMs. These B-schools are as popular as other IIMs and have placement
records of 100%. Off course, IIMs are the ivy-league B-schools in India but
options are endless for students with good scores and learning zeal!
