Infection Control Starts At Home

You
believe your home is the safest place for you and your family, right?
It may well be, provided your home is not the breeding ground for
germs and bacteria. We seem to be extra cautions about infections
when we step out of our homes. We ensure that the restaurant we eat
at maintains proper hygiene or we wash our hands when coming home
from an outdoor event. However, are we equally conscious about the
germs that breed in our homes?
Infection
control does need to begin at home. And it can begin with simple
things, like getting a magic mop online rather than using an old
t-shirt to wipe the floor. You can also raise awareness and inspire
every member of the family to chip in to make your home germ free.

4 Essential Things to Know About Infection
Control

Before
you begin infection control, you need the right equipment in place,
such as an antibacterial solution, disinfectant spray, magic mop and
duster. Here are the things to keep in mind:
  1. Your
kitchen attracts more germs than you know
    – Your kitchen is
probably the most active place in your house. Keep a roll of kitchen
towel handy, and encourage people to immediately wipe the counter or
floor if they spill something. Keep a bottle of soap handy and
insist on whoever is cooking to wash their hands before they start
organizing the meal. Have people pat dry dishes after washing them.
Else, your kitchen will remain damp for longer, which becomes the
breeding ground for germs. Ensure that the dish cloth and kitchen
towel are washed daily with soap. Moist kitchen towels not only
breed bacteria, but also spread bacteria very quickly, since the
towels are used to wipe things like counter tops and dishes.
  2. Dead skin
    attracts bacteria
    – Did you know that your bed is a haven for
germs and dust-mites? When you sleep, your dead skin gets onto
bedsheets and pillow cases. Dust-mites feed on human dead skin cells
and can cause many ailments. Ensure to dust your bed when you wake
up and also once before you get into bed for the night. It is a
great idea to change your bedsheets and pillow covers at least twice
    a week.
  3. Get the
    right tools –
Use a good antibacterial detergent to
wash your linen. It is best to use warm water. Get a Dreamline magic
mop for cleaning the floors. This not only has microfibers that
catch on to dust, but also have an attached bucket with wringer.
This helps to wring the mop without dirtying your hands. Moreover,
you can mix an antibacterial detergent in water in the bucket and,
use the round head of the mop to clean corners more effectively.
  4. Keep it
    simple
    – Do not clutter your home with too much furniture or
decoration. Ensure that you have light furniture that can be shifted
around easily, so that even the remote corners can be cleaned. More
decorative items on your shelves means more surface area for dust to
settle, making the cleaning job tougher.
  5. Avoid
    heavy fabrics –
The more fabric you have in your home, the
better it is for germs to breed. Ensure that your curtains
are light and washable. Avoid carpets on the floors. You can use a
small rug instead, since this would be easier to remove and clean.
  6. A closer
    look at the loo
    – Keep a separate magic mop for the bathroom,
and definitely use a disinfectant when you wipe the floors. You can
also use a disinfectant to spray the doorknobs and handles of the
    bathroom.
A few simple steps and the cooperation of all family members can
ensure that infection is under control, and that your home truly
becomes the safest place for your loved ones.
